Region

Vaerac is a little village with 800 residents, post office, grocery, bakery and a beautiful church dating from the 15th century. The region is rich in quality produce such as melons, peaches, nectarines, grapes, preserves, wines and goose liver (foie gras). In the surrounding of Vazerac there are excellent walks. Colourful and varied landscape with hills, corn fields, sun flowers, maize, orchards and vineyards greet you at every step. 'Quercy', the region in which Camping Latapie is situated, is known for its 'pigeonniers', or pigeon houses. In the region you can see different architectural styles. Our house, too, has a pigeonnier. This part of the Quercy is also called 'little Tuscany', because of the hills topped with small villages. The soil is mostly clay, so when the fields are ploughed, you see sloping fields in colours varying from yellowish to reddish brown. Vazerac is situated on the route to Santiago de Compostella. The pilgrims used to rest in the church before they walked on to Moissac. This route is still used today. Camping Latapie offers the opportunity for a lovely rest in all its tranquillity. North of Vazerac lies Cahors, a medieval town with quaint alleys, bustling markets and the 14th century Pont (Bridge) Valentré among its numerous attractions. In the vicinity of Cahors you can visit many castles with vineyards and pre-historic caves, many of which have wall paintings (for example Peche Merle). South of Vazerac lies Montauban, the capital of the department. Here is the famed Ingres Museaum located in the ancient Episcopal Palace dating from the 17th centrury. Opposite this museum you will find the Natural- and Prehistoric Museum. The lively market is on the 'Place Nationale', a square with all sides covered with double arcades. Montauban is furthermore known for its buildings of red bricks, just like the pink city of Toulouse. Toulouse is the 4th largest city of France with more than 400.000 residents and home to the Airbus. In this bustling city you can shop until you need to rest at one of the numerous pavement cafés. Architecture and museums offer you its cultural history. Just outside the city is the European centre of space travel; the Ariane rocket and the Concorde were developed here. Any day of the week lovers of (flower and vegetable) markets can visit one of more within a radius of 35 km from Camping Latapie. And just a few kilometers down the road from us you can visit an ancient watermill that grinds its own flour and kneads the dough before baking it in a wood-fired oven. Aside from fascinating little villages in the region, Moissac, Lauzerte, Albi, Gorges de l'Averyon, Caves Peche Merle and Rocamadour are certainly worth a visit.
